While still working I wasn't able to arrange time off to attend either the lecture or tutorial in week one. Its week 3 now though, and the lecture notes have become available on blackboard.
Going over the lecture I saw reference to things I'd seen and found on the internet, articles and documentaries discussing the role and influence of real-time graphics on avatar,1 and the development of a heads up display for military engineers that walked them through simple repair tasks. I always found these kind of things really interesting, and the prospect of producing something similar for myself is something I'm looking forward to doing.
I had mixed feelings about the Machinima videos shown through the lecture. Anna I really liked, both the style and story appealed to me. I found the style of The Journey on the other distracting and incoherent, but I can appreciate the work that went into creating something with such an individual style on an engine that was not at all intended for that type of production. Of all the things shown, Sid the science kid interested me the most. Mocap is something of particular interest to me, although I know we won't touch on it in this class I hope to move in that direction with work I do when finished with uni.
